Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services, the Associate Director assists in the management of on-site counseling services emphasizing wellness and preventive mental health care for students, directly supervises a team of five staff clinicians, provides direct clinical service, oversees alcohol and other drug services offered by the department, and acts with the authority of the director in her absence.  The Associate Director develops and implements policies to assure timely and quality care in compliance with federal and state laws, national standards of care and professional legal/ethical guidelines. This position interprets relevant laws and directives (HIPAA, FERPA, Jeanne Clery Act, Title IX) and applies interpretation to case management practices.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage delivery of mental health services and educational outreach programs that foster the safety and well-being of the campus community for a team of five staff clinicians.

Develop and monitor yearly unit goals and objectives.

Lead in the evaluation and assessment of service provision and programs for the unit and develop new programs to improve and expand services to respond to current and future needs of the University community.

Provide direct supervision and management of a cohort of the counseling center staff. Recruit, hire, train, schedule/assign, evaluate and recommend reappointments, and oversee promotions and disciplinary actions for assigned department staff. Ensure compliance with continuing education requirements, and professional development opportunities for staff.

Oversee the implementation of counseling center policies and staff performance standards as well as updating the department’s Policies and Procedures Manual.

Oversee the provision of routine and emergency individual psychological consultation, assessment, brief psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and appropriate referrals, by assigned staff. Supervises the assessment and diagnoses of specific psychological conditions and disorders by assigned staff and contracted service providers. Administratively oversees alcohol and other drug use services and carries an active caseload.

Manage the implementation of emergency management procedures for responding to mental health and other emergencies at the University.

Coordinate care and/or provide trauma debriefing services in the aftermath of campus emergencies.

Maintain professional relationships with mental health agencies and clinicians in the community to establish an off-campus referral base for students, faculty, and staff requiring specialized or long-term treatment.

Supervise the performance of emergency procedures for the immediate management of mental health emergencies, both in the office during regular business hours and on a rotating on-call basis after normal business hours.

REQUIRED

Master's in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology or a relevant field 

Minimum four years of full-time professional work experience in a university counseling center or related setting.

Current valid license as a psychologist, social worker or counselor in the State of New Jersey.

LCSW or LPC with commensurate experience.

Ability to work as needed on an on-call basis after normal business hours.

Demonstrated competence in time limited individual and group counseling with diverse populations

Proven ability and commitment to successfully working with diverse and underrepresented groups

Well-developed knowledge base and ability to assess/intervene with developmental concerns, especially those of young adults

Strong ability to build collegial relationships within the University and surrounding community

PREFERRED:

  • Psychologist (preferred) 

  • Supervisory experience

Salary Range

$123,000.00-$133,000.00 Annually
