About this role

Minimum Education:

  • Master’s degree in the content area or master’s degree and 18 graduate credit hours in the content area

Preferred Education:

  • Master’s degree in Composition/Writing Instruction – Composition and Basic Writing
  • Master's Degree in Secondary Education with a Reading Endorsement

Required Experience

  • English Composition – 1-2 years of experience teaching first-year Composition 
  • Basic Writing – 2-3 years of experience teaching developmental writing
  • College Reading and Study Skills – 2-3 years of experience teaching developmental reading and knowledge of reading theory.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct courses aligned with departmental goals for first-year writing and/or developmental writing/reading.
  • Develop syllabi, assignments, and rubrics that support student learning outcomes.
  • Provide feedback on student assignments through written comments, conferences, and peer review sessions.
  • Assess student performance using formative and summative evaluation methods.
  • Integrate technology and digital literacy into writing instruction (e.g., using LMS platforms, online research tools).
  • Hold regular office hours to support student learning and address individual concerns.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and professional development activities.
