Job Description

The Student Counsellor plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality professional counselling services to SAE students, supporting them to fully realise their personal and academic goals. The role contributes to a range of support and development activities aimed at strengthening the SAE community and provides consultation to campus staff. The Student Counsellor works individually, under the clinical supervision of the National Manager of Counselling and Wellbeing, with autonomy in prioritising and completing tasks. This involves working cooperatively in both clinical and campus team environments, and a capacity to balance outreach programs with the provision of individual counselling services within a part-time role. part-time position. This role can work from the Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne SAE campus.

Qualifications

A relevant tertiary qualification e.g. Social Work, Psychology or Counselling, and current membership of the appropriate professional association: 

  • Demonstrated proficiency and efficacy in counselling clients from diverse social and cultural backgrounds with a broad range of issues, including complex and high-risk presentations.
  • Proven high level of competence in responding to urgent mental health presentations, triage, case management and liaison/advice regarding appropriate mental health first aid.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of relevant legislative, ethical and practice requirements e.g. confidentiality, privacy, anti-discrimination, mandatory reporting.
  • Demonstrated capability to facilitate appropriate and effective referrals as needed.
  • Proven ability to plan, implement and evaluate groups and/or training and development workshops, particularly with an outreach focus.
